The Journey

The Story of the Walk

It begins quietly in Chawri Bazaar…

It begins quietly in Chawri Bazaar, where paper dust hangs in the air and forgotten Mughal lanes still remember who lived here centuries ago. Before the city fully reveals itself, a plate of Aloo Bedmi appears — crisp, spicy, and grounding — the kind of breakfast locals swear by but rarely explain.

With each step forward, the streets tighten, the noise rises, and suddenly you're standing near Jama Masjid Gate No. 3, tasting Matar Kulcha while the shadows of minarets fall across the road. This isn't a stop — it's a moment Old Delhi allows you to have.

Then the route disappears. You don't follow main roads; you slip through them. A cycle market hums like a living machine, lanes twist without warning, and just when it feels overwhelming, a tiny chai stop pulls you in. Steam rises, time slows, and stories unfold — stories you won't find written anywhere, because they belong only to those who sit, listen, and notice.

In Dariba Kalan, sweetness arrives first — hot jalebis, then crisp samosas — but the real flavor is in the past, when jewelers served emperors and silver still ruled the street. Kinari Bazaar dazzles the senses with color and chaos, only to suddenly fall silent at Naughara, where nine old houses guard a courtyard so calm it feels like the city forgot this place exists.

Cameras click softly. Voices drop. Old Delhi breathes.

Near Paranthe Wali Gali, temptation returns. A generations-old kachori shop leads the way, followed by paranthas cooked the old way — slow, heavy, unapologetic. Then, without warning, the noise fades inside Sis Ganj Gurudwara, where sacrifice, faith, and equality form the heart of Sikhism. Shoes off, head covered — the city asks for respect here, and gives something back in return.

Just when walking feels like enough, a rickshaw waits. The ride plunges you into Khari Baoli, Asia's largest spice market, where the air burns with chilies, traders shout in coded rhythms, and sacks of spices tell stories older than borders. You don't just see it — you feel it in your chest, your eyes, your breath.

The final chapter waits in Chandni Chowk. Chhole Bhature at a place locals trust blindly. A thick lassi, if your stomach still dares. And then — just like that — Old Delhi loosens its grip, leaving you back at the metro or parking area, wondering how four hours felt like another lifetime.
